The Boy Scouts of America (BSA), Newark’s Historic Robert Treat District, Northern New Jersey Boy Scout Council, recognized Holly Kaplansky, a Bloomfield resident and owner of Minuteman Press of Newark, as one of its five outstanding honorees.

The event was held at Newark’s Congregation Ahavas Sholom, which sponsors Scouts’ Venturing Crew 145, co-ed teenagers who pursue high adventure, service, leadership learning, and other activities in Newark. Mildred C. Crump, Newark’s Municipal Council President, presented the awards. According to Maureen Edelson, BSA District Executive, “the Boy Scouts of America seeks to instill character, citizenship, and fitness in youth, and at this event, we honor outstanding community leaders who, through their success and accomplishments, serve as great role models for our scouts. We chose to honor Holly Kaplansky because of her service to the district and, as a business owner in Newark, for her commitment to the city and for serving as an inspiration for its youth.” “I am very honored to be recognized by Newark’s Historic Robert Treat District of the Boy Scouts of America,” explains Holly. “As a business owner in this great city, I have experienced the amazing renewal of Newark and continue to benefit from its rebirth. So I decided to give back to the community by getting involved in an organization focused on our youth that develops character, teaches leadership, and probably most importantly, gives boys and girls the opportunity to learn to respect themselves and understand their potential value.” The youth speaker for the Tribute to Women program was Ruby Romero, Crew 145 president and senior at Newark’s Technology High. The Venturing Crew provided the color guard for the event. Owner of Minuteman Press of Newark, Holly’s 30-year career in corporate America is extensive. She has served in executive management positions for companies in both New Jersey and New York, giving her a solid background in operations management and marketing. She earned her BA in art from the State University of New York. Holly serves as president for the Essex Chapter of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO), secretary for the Northern NJ Chapter of the Association of Women in Communications, and is a member of the North Essex Chamber of Commerce. Minuteman Press offers printing, copying, and bindery services, with free delivery throughout Essex County and the surrounding areas.
